Chapter Fifteen

When I entered the kitchen, I was surprised to find Hunter leaning against the counter. One arm crossed over his chest with a glass with amber liquid in his other hand. He’d lost his jacket somewhere along the way. My eyes zeroed in on the patch of skin revealed by the two buttons he’d undone at the collar. I didn’t think it was possible, but this man only looked sexier every time I saw him.

He didn’t say a word but his eyes followed the sway of my hips until I was across from him. Once I was still, those dangerous blue eyes slowly crawled over my body until they locked on mine.

Two could play his game.

Standing on the other side of the island, I mimicked his pose.

He lifted his eyebrows, slightly tilted his head, but still stayed mute.

Our staring match lasted until he finished his drink one small sip at a time. Putting the glass in the sink, he turned around and walked right past me. As if on a leash, I followed behind him up the stairs.

There was a small library on the landing and I couldn’t help but admire it for a second before heading up the second flight of stairs. Once I hit the top, I spotted a flash of fabric rounding the corner to my left and I followed.

The floors were gleaming marble and my heels echoed loudly as I chased Hunter down the hallway and into the room in which he disappeared. Okay, walked swiftly after him. I refused to run after any man, especially in heels.

“You are persistent, Ms. Turner,” Hunter said as soon as I entered.

“No, what I am is angry. Our sister might let you treat her like shit, but I refuse to stand by and not say anything,” I huffed, putting my hands on my hips.

Hunter laughed humorlessly from his spot a few feet away.

“Oh, please, enlighten me. How do I treat her badly?” he asked, agile fingers undoing the buttons on his shirt. It was only then that I realized that I had unknowingly stepped into his bedroom. The masculine decor and the fact that his scent lingered heavily in the air made it abundantly clear this was his personal space. A very private space where very naughty things took place.

Opening my mouth, I was about to let him have it until he pulled his dress shirt out of his pants then pushed it off his shoulders.

“I’m waiting.” He tossed his shirt on a chair then bracketed his lean waist with his broad hands, his frigid eyes studying me.

His bare chest was more than my brain could handle. Every thought vaporized under such a lascivious sight. Deliciously carved muscles covered in smooth, lightly tanned skin was much more than I had expected his suit to be hiding. While I’d been admiring him, Hunter had taken my silence for an answer.

“Exactly. You have no proof. She is treated like a spoiled princess. Never worked a day in her life.” Hunter turned his back to me and scoffed while shaking his head.
